If you have ever doubted the importance of tech communities, think again!.

In this spotlight episode, Tochukwu attributes his growth in machine learning to his local tech community. He also spoke about the future of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Africa, and how it affects his goals.

How did you get into tech?

My journey as a “Techie“ started in the first quarter of 2019 when I got into Data Science because I loved the concept of having a machine learn on its own.

However, the most important thing I would say that kept me going, was the support I got from the community at CoLab Innovation Hub where it all started. This has been crucial to my growth.

When and how did you get into Kudi as an intern?

I became an intern at Kudi in August of 2021, My internship interview for Kudi was based on a referral.

What inspired Machine Learning Engineering for you?

The desire to learn about Machine Learning Engineering dates back to something I wanted to do as a child, because the ideas of robots/AI always had me fantasizing about making a clone of myself that I could talk to, but I always thought that the idea was far-fetched.

What exciting tools do you currently work with, and why do they excite you?

Currently, I work with tools like Tensorflow, SQL, GCP and Google Colabotary. The most exciting thing about working with these tools is the ability to run quick experiments.

What problem does it solve?

It helps reduce the complexity in building Machine Learning solutions.

What does the future hold?

For me, the long term goal is to be a Robotics Engineer and I want to be at the forefront of the fourth industrial revolution paradigm shift, in all things AI and Robotics in Africa

Advice for aspiring ML Engineering/ Software Engineering interns?

There is a lot that I would love to say but the most important thing I have learned is that the world is growing at a really fast pace and if you want to grow with it just know that there is always something you can learn to be a better version of yourself and you can only get better by doing.
