Kikelomo Blavo (fondly called Kike) first started out as a graphics designer in the good old days of Corel.
She first tried her hands on Figma - the web-based design tool, around 2017. She has transitioned into a full Product Designer role and has delivered a large number of web and mobile product designs.
Kike studied Visual Arts and majored in Graphic Design. She has always had a passion for design which she says was inspired by the people and culture around her.
We asked her a few questions in order to get to know her better. The questions and answers appear below.
How did you get into design?
I started designing at the University. I studied Visual Arts with a major in graphics design.
What is your tool of choice?
Figma. It makes collaboration easy and is browser-based!
What inspires your designs?
People, culture and experiences I am also part of various design communities, and I find inspiration in the ideas and designs shared by others.
Tell us about your growth?
Transitioning into Product Design has been fun. Collaborating with other stakeholders on product vision, knowing the end-to-end experiences of the product, and being on the front lines observing users has helped me become a better designer.
What does the future hold?
My ultimate goal is to be a design leader, where I exist to support and enrich young designers so they can do their best work possible.
Tips for budding designers?
Take advantage of online courses.
Find design support groups where you can talk to other designers and learn from their experiences.
Consider internships or volunteering to get professional experience. While I am not typically an advocate of working for free, it is a great way to get your foot in the door.
Update: Kikelomo left Kudi a day before this article was published.
